Battling Mountains, Rain and Winds of 90mph for Joshua

The weekend before last our crazy Three Peaks team of Andy, Toby, Jess, Joey, Jake, Tom, Chris, Ben and not forgetting the incredible driving Dave, took on the Three Peaks Challenge for Joshua, and boy what a challenge did they face!

Starting out at 6.30am on the Sunday morning they managed to tackle Ben Nevis with a full belly and pretty good weather all things considered. But despite this fabulous start, the British weather began to turn and when they reached the top of Scafell Pike the wind was starting to batter them here there and everywhere.

 

Determined to continue no matter what they arrived at Snowdon in Wales after hours of driving through the rain and wind they waited two hours before they officially had to abandon the last summit due to 90mph winds, landslides and torrential rain.


We were glad to have them all safely back on terra firma and having had a week to recover we are delighted to share with you the news that the team have raised an incredible £1,602 to help get Mac, Joshua's trustee 4x4 back on track!

Three Peaks Challenge 2014

This October nine intrepid Joshua explorer’s are tackling one of the UK’s hardest endurance challenges, the Three Peaks.

Why are these crazy fools climbing the UK’s three highest peaks in just 24 hours? To raise money to help Joshua get Mac back on track.

Who’s Mac? Mac is our beloved vehicle and having suffered at the hands of Malawi’s interesting roads for many years now, not to mention encounters with buses, pot holes, roundabouts and more, Mac is in urgent need of some TLC. Despite her weekly Gin and Tonic oil top up, she won’t last much longer without an engine overhaul, and she is so vital to our work because she:

• Deliver’s Likuni Phala to Joshua’s 10 Community Based Childcare Centres which serve over 2,500 meals a week to the poorest infants.
• Takes volunteer health workers out into rural communities to run weekly Health Clinics for under-fives at our Community Based Childcare Centres.
• Gets essential supplies to schools, including uniforms, books, stationery and much more.

This is where our crazy Three Peaker’s have stepped up to the challenge – aiming to raise £3,000 to help give Mac the engine overhaul she so desperately needs.
