Joshua has been setting up school libraries at Chilaweni Primary and Chigumakire Secondary Schools.
Thanks to Scotia Education Trust, a library building and shelving were set up at Chilaweni, and Joshua helped to stock the shelves with books from the National Library and our Resource Centre at Pensulo, which we have decided to close. At Chigumakiri, US Ambassadors Fund donated money for a building. Two teachers from each school were sent on a course at the National Library that was intended to enable them to sort and run the two libraries efficiently. This also was funded by Scotia Education Trust, who will also donate text books to Chigumakire. Many thanks to Dr. Jo Thorp for her assistance.

There was a formal opening of the library at Chigumakire
on 30th July, attended by the donors, the local MP and Traditional
Authority, local chiefs and other dignitaries. It was a joyful occasion
and there were many positive comments made about money that was donated being
well used and Joshua’s accountability. The school has prepared 150,000
bricks (funded by the parents), and they hope to get funding for building new
classrooms next year, and there certainly is a great need as the classrooms are
in a dire state.
